Nobody wants to get sick on holiday, but it’s always good to know your options – just in case. When you’re away from home, feeling unwell can be stressful, especially if you are not familiar with how healthcare works in another country. Thankfully, Amsterdam has excellent medical services that are easy to access for visitors.

During one of our own trips from Ireland to Amsterdam back in October 2024, we found ourselves in that very situation. One of us picked up an infection and needed to see a doctor. Thankfully, we discovered The Tourist Doctors, and we couldn’t recommend them enough.

From the moment we reached out, the experience was incredibly smooth. The process was quick, the staff were friendly, and the doctor was both professional and reassuring. Within an hour, we had an appointment, saw the doctor, got a prescription, and were sorted – all without the stress you might expect when dealing with something like that when abroad. Honestly, the holiday could have been ruined otherwise, but thanks to their fast and efficient service, we were back on our feet in no time.

The Tourist Doctors have clinics located conveniently in central Amsterdam, making them easy to reach from most hotels and tourist areas. They offer a wide range of medical services, including consultations for minor illnesses and infections, prescription renewals, travel-related health issues, and even minor injuries. They also provide e-consultations, which is especially handy if you’re feeling too unwell to leave your accommodation.

Appointments can be booked online or by phone, and they are used to helping international visitors, so communication is never an issue. Consultations are private and can be reimbursed through your travel insurance if you have coverage for medical expenses abroad.

So while no one hopes to need a doctor during their Amsterdam adventure, it’s great to know that help is available when you need it. The Tourist Doctors are a fantastic option if you find yourself under the weather – quick, friendly, and reliable.

If you’re planning a trip to Amsterdam, it might be worth saving their details in your phone or bookmarking their website before you go. Hopefully, you won’t need them, but it’s always better to be prepared.
